I was out and about at a fairly local garden recently – I hold a season ticket every year and generally go to visit three if not four times a year to catch the seasonal changes. This year I have been rather slack and now only managd one trip, and nearing the end of the season. But far not, there was still enough fantastic colours and border designs to keep even the most lacklustre candidate from moaning. The place we visited was ideally set up for novices and knowledgeable green fingered folk alike. It is truly exciting when see a grou of dahlia’s in one fantastic spray of colour – it inspires you to look further and the owner of the garden is so proud of her efforts. It’s wonderful to see how all the co-ordinating plants mesh into each other but with subtle tonal diferences. The salmon pink blooms will be mirrored by a rose and surrounded by penstomen, spires of the same colour, perhaps a little darker. The sheer delight drawn from these wonderful designs makes the giving of a either a garden scheme gift voucher or a season ticket for a specific garden, one of the best ideas you can have.
